Does CrossFit work? 1 Year in – you be the judge!!
In March 2010 I started my CrossFit journey. In October 2009 I had signed up to participate in the 2010 Ride to Conquer Cancer – a 200 km bike ride from Toronto to Niagara Falls. This was my excuse to get back into shape. Over the previous year I was working from home full time and my normal physical activity had dramatically decreased. By January 2010 I was tipping the scales at 200 lbs and my waist was 36”. I assumed all my pants had shrunk in the wash!
Kristine invited me to try CrossFit as part of my training for the ride. I had no idea what CrossFit was or what I was signing up for. From my first WOD, I realized this was nothing like the YMCA gym I had been working out at for the past few months. I started out doing 2 workouts a week – leading up to my bike ride. Even after 4 short months, I was in much better shape. My cardio had increased by leaps and bounds, my weight was dropping, and I started to discover muscles I never knew existed.
Now – exactly 1 year later, I am at a steady 170 pounds (which I haven’t weighed since my early twenties!!) and I’m buying pants at a size 30!! Thanks to the constant encouragement, guidance, and pushing from both Kristine and Chris – I’ve been able to do things I never thought I would be capable of.
I am now a full-fledged CrossFit addict. Thank you Square One CrossFit, Kristine and Chris, for showing me how to get fitter, faster and stronger!
