I’d say I was probably like most, adequately fit but more on the out of shape side of things.  When I was younger I was healthier, I was a lot more active, and played several sports.  Overtime the couch and watching, rather than playing in the hockey game, became my preference.  One day I realized that I had to make a simple choice, that is to be healthier and get back to being more active.  I wanted results fast, I had heard about the CrossFit program through several friends and to be honest was intimidated thinking about taking on what I thought was going to be a huge challenge.

It turns out the biggest challenge so far was simply making the choice to start. I went to my first CrossFit class and it was tough, really tough.  After a few years of inactivity, social drinking and smoking, I couldn’t finish my first workout.  Although I was disappointed internally, the folks at Square One CrossFit encouraged me to stick with it. The environment was not intimidating at all, the atmosphere was welcoming and fantastic, we all competed against ourselves and encouraged each other.

After just two short months I’ve seen my performance on workouts that I completed in the first couple of weeks double, increased weight, and much faster time.  I’ve lost 1.5 inches off my waist, an inch off my neck and dropped about 15 lbs.  Just last month I played my first hockey game in 2 years, and my stamina and strength on the ice are better now that they were when I played regularly.  CrossFit definitely builds athletes and motivates you to work hard at every workout.  I’m addicted, if you want sustainable results fast this is the place to be.
