All that changed when I met up with Catherine (a childhood friend of mine) and she introduced me to Square One CrossFit in February 2010. I’d heard about CrossFit before, but like most visitors, I didn’t really know what to expect, had no idea what was in store for me. It was a little intimidating at first but Chris, Kristine and Scott, the trainers at Square One CrossFit, are so personable, knowledgeable, and welcoming that you don’t feel as nervous as you did when you first walked through the doors. That being said, I still feel nervous for whatever the workout of the day will be because you just never know and you will never know until you stepped through those doors.
Anyway, I’ve digressed. My initial focus at Square One CrossFit was to train in preparation for my physical fitness test for the Peel Regional Police. The test day came and went, I passed it, but I continued with my CrossFit training even after the fact and will continue to do so because I am honestly addicted: to the challenging workouts, the pain, hanging out with fellow CrossFitters, addicted to everything CrossFit. Family, friends, and work colleagues have criticized me about my “addiction” to CrossFit. But one would need to wonder: there are so many other things that I could be addicted to that could be harmful, if not fatal, to my health and if CrossFit is about keeping me healthy and strong, it’s not all that bad…
Like all CrossFit gyms, Square One CrossFit is all about pushing you to your limits, challenging you both physically and mentally, to the point where you feel uncomfortable, where you decide whether you want to stop or not and nothing else matters. So thank you to Square One CrossFit, I look forward to every challenge, and to Catherine for getting me addicted.
